Key Points to Consider for a Successful Database Migration – Part 1
More and more businesses of all sizes are moving or considering a database migration to the cloud. A study by Emergent Research found that the proportion of US small businesses that have adapted to cloud computing was set to increase from 37 percent in 2014 to 80 percent by 2020.
Businesses recognize the benefits of migration in terms of reduced IT costs, improved resilience and disaster recovery, and security. But, the time, risk and complexity of migration is holding many companies back.
Reduce complexity
Complexity of migration was top of the list of concerns reported by the Cloud Industry Forum. However, a study by Rackspace found that companies using a third-party supplier had fewer concerns about migration than businesses taking a DIY approach.
Internal IT departments may find they can’t provide a dedicated team to manage the entire process, or they can’t provide fast resolution of problems during the migration. Specialist service providers have the skills and resources to complete the process quickly and efficiently, and respond rapidly to any issues.
