Role Summary
The Network Operations Engineer provides hands-on operational support for enterprise network infrastructure, ensuring service availability, performance, and stability across LAN, WAN, Data Centre, and Cloud environments. The role is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving incidents, supporting routine network changes, and working closely with engineers, architects, and stakeholders within a 24x7 global operations model.
Key Responsibilities
• Incident & Problem Management: Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex network incidents and major outages, performing root cause analysis and driving permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Change Implementation: Plan and execute complex network changes, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities across routing, switching, firewall, load balancing, and cloud networking platforms in accordance with governance and risk controls.
• Network Engineering & Operations: Provide advanced operational support and technical leadership across LAN, WAN, Data Centre, and Cloud environments, ensuring optimal performance, resilience, and availability.
• Escalation & Collaboration: Act as the senior escalation point for L1 and L2 teams, collaborating with L3 SMEs, vendors, and stakeholders to provide technical guidance, diagnostics, and timely communication during critical incidents.
• Service Improvement & Automation: Drive continuous improvement initiatives through automation, process optimisation, operational standardisation, and knowledge management to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Key Technical Skills
• Networking: Expert-level knowledge of routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies including Cisco ACI, NX-OS, VLANs, VPC, HSRP/VRRP, Catalyst, ASR/CSR, and Data Centre networking concepts.
• Security: Strong hands-on experience with enterprise firewall technologies (Fortigate preferred, Check Point, Juniper), network segmentation, VPNs, NAT, and security policy management.
• Load Balancing: Advanced experience with F5 LTM/GTM, VIPRION, and application delivery technologies including VIPs, pools, SNAT, SSL offloading, PKI, and traffic management.
• DNS/DHCP & Proxy: Strong knowledge of Infoblox DNS/DHCP, enterprise DNS architecture, Proxy technologies (Zscaler, Bluecoat), and network service integration.
• Troubleshooting: Expert proficiency with diagnostic and packet analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, traceroute, nslookup, dig, packet captures, etc.) for network and application connectivity troubleshooting.
• Monitoring & Tools: Experience with enterprise monitoring, observability, and automation platforms such as Spectrum, NetBrain, Observe, Ansible, SolarWinds, Splunk, and ServiceNow.
• Automation & Scripting: Working knowledge of Python, Ansible, REST APIs, and network automation frameworks to support operational efficiency and infrastructure management.
Experience & Profile
• 7+ years of experience in network engineering, operations, and support within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Proven experience supporting complex LAN, WAN, Data Centre, Cloud, Security, and Load Balancing infrastructures in mission-critical environments.
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within 24x7 global support models, providing technical leadership, ownership, and accountability during major incidents and service restoration activities.
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Change, Problem, and Major Incident Management, with hands-on experience using ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow.
• Experience leading complex troubleshooting efforts, root cause analysis, infrastructure upgrades, and network transformation initiatives.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions and perform effectively under pressure.
• Experience working with vendors, service providers, architecture teams, and cross-functional technology teams to deliver operational excellence and continuous service improvement.
• Industry-recognized certifications such as CCNP Enterprise preferred; CCIE, Fortinet, F5, or Check Point certifications considered highly advantageous.
• BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) domain experience is highly desirable.
